Post Hair Transplant Recovery Guide
Post Hair Transplant Recovery at ADORN Aesthetics
A successful hair transplant depends not only on the procedure itself but also on proper post-operative care.
Whether you undergo FUE, DHI, FUT, Beard Transplant, Eyebrow Transplant, or IGHT™ (Insta Graft Hair Transplant), following the recommended recovery protocol helps protect grafts, minimise complications, and maximise hair growth.
Most patients return to desk work within 2–3 days, while visible healing occurs within 10–14 days. New hair growth gradually begins after a few months and continues to improve over the following year.
Immediate Post-Operative Care (Day 0–2)
During the first 48 hours, newly implanted grafts are delicate and require protection.
- Sleep with your head elevated at approximately 30 degrees.
- Use a neck pillow to avoid contact with the transplanted area.
- Spray the recipient area every 2 hours with saline or thermal water as advised.
- Take prescribed antibiotics and pain medications regularly.
- Avoid touching, rubbing, scratching, or pressing the transplanted area.
- Do not wear tight caps, helmets, or headgear.
- Avoid bending forward excessively or strenuous activities.
Hair Transplant Recovery Timeline Guide
Day 3–5: Swelling & Early Healing
Some patients may experience forehead swelling, mild redness, tightness, or numbness.
- Apply cold compresses on the forehead only (never directly on grafts).
- Continue medications as prescribed.
- Maintain adequate hydration.
- Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption.
Day 4–10: Scalp Care & Washing
Proper washing helps keep grafts clean and promotes healing.
- Gently rinse the scalp with lukewarm water for 15–20 minutes daily.
- Dab excess water using a soft towel; avoid rubbing.
- Gently massage the donor area for 10 minutes, three times daily if advised.
- Continue following clinic-specific washing instructions.
Day 7–10: Scab Formation & Healing
Tiny crusts around grafts are normal.
- Do not pick or scratch the scabs.
- Allow them to loosen naturally.
- Most redness and visible signs of surgery gradually improve.
Day 11–14: Crust Removal Phase
- Begin washing the implanted area using the recommended shampoo.
- Continue daily washing until all scabs fall naturally.
- Never forcibly remove crusts.
- Most patients can comfortably resume normal social activities.
Week 3–6: Shock Loss Phase
Temporary shedding of transplanted hairs is expected.
- This is a normal part of the growth cycle.
- Hair follicles remain healthy beneath the skin.
- New growth will emerge from these follicles in the coming months.
Month 2–4: Dormancy & Early Growth
- Initial hair growth may begin.
- Fine, thin hairs start emerging.
- Density may appear uneven during this stage.
Month 5–6: Visible Hair Growth
- New hair becomes more noticeable.
- Thickness and coverage gradually improve.
- Hair texture continues maturing.
Month 9–12: Final Results
- Most patients achieve significant density improvement.
- Hair becomes thicker, stronger, and more natural in appearance.
- Crown areas may continue improving for up to 15–18 months.
