Scar Management Protocol
(Begin only after your surgeon advises—usually after stitches are removed and the wound is fully healed.)
Purpose:
Reduces redness, thickness, itching, and hardness of the scar.
How to Apply:
• Wash hands and clean the scar area gently.
• Apply a very thin layer of silicone gel on the scar.
• Do not rub; let it dry for 1–2 minutes.
• Use twice daily (morning & night) unless advised otherwise.
• Continue for 8–12 weeks, or longer for thick/hypertrophic scars.
Precautions:
• Apply only on healed skin, not on an open wound.
• Avoid over-application; a thin layer is sufficient.
Start When:
Usually 2–3 weeks after surgery, once tenderness reduces and the wound is fully closed.
Purpose:
Improves softness, breaks scar adhesions, enhances circulation, and flattens the scar.
Technique:
Massage for 5–10 minutes, 2–3 times daily:
A. Circular Massage
Use two fingers to massage in small circles along the scar.
B. Vertical Massage
Move fingers up and down across the scar.
C. Horizontal Massage
Move fingers side to side over the scar.
D. Pressure Massage
Apply gentle pressure with a fingertip for 10–15 seconds, release, repeat.
Precautions:
• Stop if you feel sharp pain, bleeding, or wound opening.
• Avoid aggressive massage on fresh scars.
Purpose:
Gold-standard for flattening, softening, and reducing scar discolouration.
How to Use:
• Clean and dry the scar area.
• Cut the gel sheet to match the scar size.
• Apply the adhesive side over the scar.
• Keep it on for 6–12 hours/day initially, gradually increasing to 12–24 hours/day.
• Wash the sheet with mild soap and water; reuse until it loses adhesiveness.
Duration:
Use consistently for 2–3 months.
For thick scars or keloids, 6 months may be recommended.
Precautions:
• Do not use on open wounds or infected skin.
• If irritation occurs, reduce wear time and apply moisturizer.
Purpose:
Common after burns, liposuction, body contouring, gynecomastia surgery, breast surgery, or keloid-prone scars.
Helps flatten scars by applying uniform pressure.
How to Use:
• Wear custom-fit or prescribed pressure garments.
• Should feel snug but not painful or restricting breathing.
• Wear for 12–16 hours/day, based on surgeon’s advice.
• Therapy duration: 3–6 months, sometimes up to 1 year for keloid-prone skin.
Precautions:
• Remove if you notice numbness, severe redness, or skin breakdown.
• Wash regularly to maintain hygiene.
Here is the best-practice daily schedule:
Morning
1. Clean the scar gently.
2. Apply silicone gel (thin layer).
3. After it dries, apply silicone sheet.
4. Wear pressure garment (if advised).
Noon
• Remove silicone sheet.
• Scar Massage for 5–10 minutes.
• Reapply silicone gel.
Night
• Apply silicone gel again OR silicone sheet overnight (if tolerated).
• Wear pressure garment as recommended.
